Welcome Back...By Tom Lord

Active ImageThe Society began its new year with the kick off social event at Finisterre Suites and Spa.  What was critical to this event was to highlight the Society’s Charity and Scholarship projects. Society members and friends who attended this function had the opportunity to meet with our successful scholarship students, and to contribute to the charity and scholarship projects.

Active ImageDonations and a 50/50 auction were held.    The winner, Janet Novak made a donation of her winnings.   Thank You!!!

Sandy Abell is back and ready to run the scholarship programs again.  She was no sooner off the airplane and the next day attending our first Board meeting. Sandy is seen here with Armando Bacorizo, our University of Panama student and two of his 4 children.

Active ImageHe is entering the final year of a four year primary education program at the University of Panama in Santa Fe, Darien.   The Society is committed to assisting him as he in now in his final semester and he is teaching in the Marco Alarcon School in Metati, Darien as a third grade teacher.   He raising his family, teaching and attending university Armando has a full plate.   We will continue to assist him.

Carmita Cabezon Quiros, Nair Cabezon and Basilio Membache completed their first cycle and were initiating the final phase leading to the completion of a high school degree.  These three students also received awards for their achievements.   The Society paid for all the costs associated with his graduation.    The Society was honored by the ACS for our support.

Active ImageCherie Gaines, a society member, collected donations to support Social Contract Training at the Torrijos-Carter School in San Miguelito.   The society has been working with the Social Contract Training Foundation to help students work out situations in a positive non-violent way.    This training is now being provided to 250 students at the school.   Children who have received this training over the past few years confirm the success of this program.
The Society this year directed its funding toward this effort. It is the desire to help these humble Panamanians make an impact in their community and improve their society. The simple approach has the most impact.  We cannot have an impact without membership support.    The Society’s approximate monthly cost for these five students is about $500.00 dollars.   The membership must understand that the assistance the society provides is not only to pay for the tuition but also for school fees, supplies, uniforms, and transportation costs.
This program can only continue with membership support (and continued growth) for the Society’s events and fund raisers.  The Society’s annual membership fee barely covers our administrative costs.  We need your support!!!

THANK YOU HARI FOR ALL THE GREAT PICTURES OF THE EVENT……

Survey

Active ImageOver the past few years, AMSOC has focused on recruitment incentives, educational and charitable work, formal and informal social events, and continued funding. To meet projected civic needs in Panama, and the resources to achieve them, we need to maintain and increase our membership. To accomplish this, we need to hear from you!
Follow this link:  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SF2LGST

We request that our members complete the following survey in order to gain feedback on your perception of our organization. Plus, we love to hear your ideas and suggestions to make improvements! Some of the questions might seem simplistic, others might not precisely fit your situation. But we ask you to be candid as well as honest. If you are a part of a couple who are both members we invite both members to participate, and ask that you not consult with each other. First impressions are important. AMSOC is at a critical time in its history and this little survey could provide valuable clues to your perception of your organization and a road map for the future.

With your feedback, not only will we retain our current members, but we’ll have the feedback to gain new membership too. Data from this survey will be used to make recommendations for changes within our association.

Your input is very valuable and important to us. Thank you very much for your time in participating in our survey.

It is Caravana time

Active ImageDear American Society Members,
It is Caravana time once again.  We have always appreciated the generosity of the American Society membership and the help they provide to the USA Caravana Committee.  We ask for your continued support.  For the new comers, Caravana is a coalition of Panamanian women and women who are representative of the various countries who have their nationals living in Panama.  This group gets together annually and sponsors a huge event to raise money for local charities
The USA Committee sponsors a booth at the festival each year to raise money for Caravana de Asistencia Social.
Here’s how you can help:
